Giving local people the opportunity to excel

One of the reasons we’re always keen to implement our centralised NAECI solution is because we understand the positive impact this approach will have on the local community. Recruiting all supplementary workers through one central labour pool means we’re able to launch targeted local recruitment campaigns that reach far into the region to attract as many local people as possible. Providing them with the opportunity to secure good employment opportunities and boost their experience by working on a major construction project.

A targeted local marketing campaign

Every project is different, so we approach recruitment through a range of marketing activity. Working with regional organisations, such as the job centre and colleges, to help signpost job opportunities within the local community

Dedicated digital

Tailored online microsite with bespoke content to start a positive brand experience with the project.

Targeted social

Highly targeted regional activity using both LinkedIn and Facebook, including project updates and reinforcing the employer value proposition.

Localised activity

Face to face, large scale recruitment fairs, regional advertising in print, on the radio and maximising outdoor activity (billboards, transport media).

Candidate experience focussed

Online materials and application process based on clear communications, quick response times and a positive candidate experience for all applicants.

Talent pool nurturing

Newsletter and social media groups to maintain interest in the project and keep the talent pool warm.

Community engagement

Working with local job centres, schools, colleges and regional groups to demonstrate the career opportunities and value of the project.

Creating a responsive labour pool

To meet the changing needs of the project and accommodate the various skills required during the different project stages, we’ll establish a dedicated labour pool.

Each candidate interested in working on the site will be guided through NRL’s in-depth application process, to ensure they have the right skills and experience to safely work on the project. Once screened and approved for work, NRL’s team will communicate upcoming opportunities and prepare to onboard them ahead of assignments. Workers may be involved in various stages during the build, so will remain in the labour pool for the length of the project for future work opportunities.

How our labour pools typically operate:

  1. Candidate applies to join the labour pool through a dedicated online application process on NRL’s website

  2. NRL completes an initial review of their application and checks their suitability for work

  3. Candidate is invited to complete an interview and competency assessment

  4. Successful candidates are added in the project labour pool

  5. Candidates are shortlisted for roles for subcontractors to select the workers they require

Together with regular labour forecasting and planning, this approach ensures subcontractors have access to pre-qualified workers that they can draw on at each stage of their project deliverables.

Developing a dedicated application process

To support recruitment for the project, we’ll work with you to custom build an online recruitment process and candidate journey. Designed to make it as straightforward as possible for people to apply for roles, whilst capturing all the personal details and compliance needed to onboard them onto the project. This approach provides a positive first experience for everyone involved.
